The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Chennai Bench was constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs vide Gazette Notification No. S.O. 1935(E) dated 01.06.2016 and was established with two Courts. The Bench commenced functioning from 01.08.2016 at the premises of Corporate Bhawan, Chennai, which had earlier housed the erstwhile Company Law Board. Presently, two Courts are functioning at the Chennai Bench, exercising jurisdiction over the State of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The sanctioned strength of the Bench comprises two Judicial Members and two Technical Members. Wednesdays are earmarked for the hearing of matters under the Companies Act, 2013, providing for a structured and dedicated listing of company law matters. The Chennai Bench serves as an important forum for the adjudication of corporate and company law matters within its territorial jurisdiction and continues to contribute to the effective and efficient resolution of matters relating to companies and other stakeholders.
