Smt. Lakshmi Gurung was practising as an Advocate-on-Record before the Supreme Court of India prior to her appointment as Member (Judicial). She holds a First Class Graduate Degree in Law from the University of Delhi and is a rank holder in the Post Graduate Degree in Law from Amity University. She is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and a Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. She also holds First Class Master's Degrees in Commerce and a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur. She worked in the private sector, and her last assignment was as Chief Finance Officer and Company Secretary of Bharat Rasayan Ltd. Thereafter, she enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in 2009 to practise as an Advocate. Her areas of practice included Constitutional Law, Commercial and Contract Laws, Taxation, Arbitration, Company Law, Banking and Securitisation, Service Matters, Industrial and Labour Laws, Consumer Cases and other Civil Matters. She represented the Income Tax Department, Ministry of Finance, as Senior Standing Counsel before the High Court of Delhi, the National Company Law Tribunal and the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal. She was also Panel Counsel for the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for matters before the High Court and Central Administrative Tribunals, the Unique Identification Authority of India, Government of India, and the National Insurance Company Ltd. before the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
